Its another offering from Cherry Mobile and this time, it looks to improve its Flare X line with the latest Flare X2. Does it stand to be a dependable daily driver for its price tag? Let’s find out.

Design

The Cherry Mobile Flare X2 is made of metallic frame with dragontrail glass backing. Immediately at the back is the fingerprint sensor, a 16MP shooter with LED flash and a speaker. Up front sits the 8MP camera along with the LED notification, ambient light sensor, and earpiece. On the left side is the hybrid dual sim card tray while on the other side is where the power button and volume rocker are located. Sitting at the top is the headphone jack while at the bottom is the microUSB port.

Abandoning its plastic design from the previous Flare X is a good step for cherry mobile that makes the Flare X2 a premium device in terms of its build and looks.

Display

Flare X2 packs in a 5.5-inch FHD IPS display at 401 pixels per inch with dragontrail glass protection. As usual for IPS displays, color reproduction is lively and accurate, with good viewing angles. No problem here using under broad daylight.

Camera

The 16MP BSI sensor rear camera captures good details and natural colors when used outdoors with sufficient lighting. However, shooting indoors proved to be a struggle when it comes to focusing its subject that resulted in blurry images.

Low-light scenarios resulted in the lack of details overall. Night shooting is no different and produced grainy images in the result.

Its 8MP selfie camera is good enough with sufficient lighting but lacks in color accuracy.

The main shooter can record up 1080p at 30 frame rates per second with good quality.

Performance

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 430 paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage. Casual games can be played without a hitch but playing mid-range games might need to be adjusted from low to medium graphic settings for smoother gameplay.

Thanks to its near-stock android UI and 4GB of RAM, navigating from one application to another is seamless.
Fingerprint sensor is also accurate and fast that takes half a second to unlock the phone.

Do take note though that it lacks the gyroscope sensor that allows for VR-experience despite its Full HD screen.

Battery

The Flare X2 runs under 3000mAh battery that performed fairly average that can last almost throughout the day with a few games, surfing via mobile data, and music playback.

Audio

No support for hi-res audio is found on the device and lacks bass overall but produces loud sound.

Pricing and verdict

Cherry Mobile Flare X2 retails at P7,999. It proves to be a dependable daily driver if you are more of a casual user and you will definitely find some interesting feature like LTE support, Full HD display and fingerprint scanner. Though common nowadays, but still proves to be useful overall.

Pros:

  • Premium build and design
  • 4GB RAM
  • Good Battery life
  • Clean UI

Cons:

  • Camera could be better
  • Not suitable for gaming
