Mabuhay, everyone. This is Drew clocking in for Manila Shaker and this is my review of the LG V10… as a daily driver for 6 months.

I won’t be mentioning some of the basics since that part has been done in a previous review. What I will be covering are what many reviewers don’t get to do, use units as a daily driver for an extended period of time.

What features I still use

First off, the wide-angle front-facing camera for Filipino fun groufies is always a blast. My friends always turn to me for snapping memories since I bragged and boasted about my extra-space-for-that-new-friend option.

Manual mode is always helpful for artsy “creative” shots.

The HI-FI 32 BIT DAC is still a big plus for me being an audiophile (of course this means loading big chunks of lossless audio).

Which leads me to

Expandable storage. I just love all that space (I have yet to find a 2TB micro SD offering in Manila.)

Fast charge helps. A lot. I get to travel a lot and this has saved me more times than I have fingers and toes.

Meh features

The second screen needed some taking used to. It sits awkwardly at the top which makes one-handed use difficult. Maybe if it was under the nav buttons I could have maximized its point and purpose.

Bloatware. LG should really trim down on fats. I can’t help but feel bad about how the phone could have been a beast but is being dragged by so many things to queue upon boot up.

Slow updates. Ever since I heard there was going to be a marshmallow update, I eagerly waited for 5 months until it finally pushed through which was a let down for me since it only included 6.0.0 Marshmallow riddled with bugs. I am still waiting for a hot-fix but I’m not keeping my hopes up this time.

Battery is way too small for a big phone and all that processing power. It helps me though if I toggled down to 3G for times I don’t need data that much (or areas that don’t support LTE in the PI.)

Things (not) addressed in latest update

Fingerprint sensor was improved via the update. A lot snappier than the previous version. But the second tier lock takes over some of the times disabling the fingerprint if you lock the phone via double tap.

I couldn’t find Doze nor feel like it’s present in the phone.

Is it still worth it?

If you need the features I mentioned above, by all means, yes.

If you don’t really care about the small things, options you should consider are Huawei Nexus 6P, Huawei Mate 8, Samsung Note series. All of these play around the price range of the V10 starting at PHP 26,000 to about PHP 37,000 respectively. (Price range varies per location within SEA which may or may not include tax.)
