Motorola’s Newest Moto Mods-compatible Smartphone – the Moto Z2 Play
The successor of the first Moto smartphone, Moto Z2 Play, with partial modularity has just been launched by Motorola Philippines for ‘an affordable’ PhP 24,999. There’s two more phones, don’t worry. More on that later.
Retaining the general shape and features, it’s basically an upgraded version of the Moto Z Play. Consumers still get the same screen, CPU, GPU. The RAM got bumped up to 4GB, the camera gets an upgrade for night life and faster focusing tech (Dual Autofocus Pixels + Laser Autofocus). The on-screen navigation keys are now inexistent out of the box, since the home button/fingerprint reader has now swipe inputs. Swiping to the right opens the Recents and swiping to the other side is for the Back function.

When is the Moto Z2 Play available for purchase though?
It’ll be available on purchase from July 21. Purchasing a Moto Z2 Play from July 21 to August 31 will come bundled with an in-house Unlimited Possibilities gift box full of smartphone accessories that will prove to be useful for the Filipino consumer. The gift box includes four freebies: a Moto Style Shell Mod, protective metal bumper, selfie stick and a liquid nano-screen protector. The Moto Z2 Play comes in two colors – Lunar Gray and Fine Gold.
New Moto Mods?
Speaking of Moto Mods, new ones (well, two) were shown in the launch event earlier. An improved JBL Soundboost 2 flaunts its splash-proof tech, allowing for outdoor and poolside use. The orange accent on the kickstand is replaced with a flat black color.
The other new Moto Mod is Motorola’s own moto gamepad. It has its own battery, a 1035mAh one, to avoid using the phone’s internal battery. It is said to hold 8 hours of battery life upon being fully charged. The moto gamepad has two thumbsticks, a DPad, 8 buttons and a shoulder button on each end. Pricing is yet to be announced for either.
You mentioned two more phones?
Along with the Moto Z2 Play are two budget-oriented, sub-9k smartphones. The Moto C Plus packs a 4000mAh battery that can last for up to 30 hours of use on a single charge. The larger display and more advanced camera would be definitely tempting for those who are looking for a wallet-friendly pair. The Moto C Plus is available in two colour variants of Starry Black and Fine Gold, and retails at PhP 6,299.
