NAIA Issues Paperless Entry For PAL Passengers

With the technological advancement accommodated by majority of Filipinos nowadays, many companies are adjusting their service system to catch up with this change and of course, take advantage of its aid as well.

Case in hand, International Air Transport Association (IATA) released a mandate for member airlines to eliminate paper documents and move to a paperless environment by 2016, and this is through updating system to electronic means.

In line with this, Manila International Airport Authority issued on Sunday a reminder about a new system that took effect earlier today, March 16.

Accordingly, passengers – at least those of flag carrier Philippine Airlines – with flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila will have to start presenting electronic instead of paper tickets.

“Upon entering, a passenger will be asked by airport security to show an image of (his or her) e-ticket on his (or her) personal electronic device, whether smartphone, tablet or laptop,” it said.

This new system uses a digital image of the ticket sent to passengers’ devices. The image should match the one sent by PAL to the passenger’s device when ticket was purchased.

MIAA noted that paper documents such as traditional paper ticket, the printed itinerary receipt, and the printed e-boarding pass for passengers who availed of online check-in would also be accepted but only during the initial phase of the project.

The MIAA also advised passengers to bring travel documents such as valid identification cards with photograph and passports for security and check-in.

Passengers need not worry, as PAL representatives will be posted at the NAIA Terminal 2 entrance during the initial phase, to assist passengers and security personnel in the new system.
