Reddit Updates Privacy Policy

Reddit Updates Privacy Policy: Following the report yesterday about Google prohibiting sexually explicit posts on Blogger, social-networking and news site Reddit announced today in making the same move. It will remove photos, videos and links with explicit content if the person in the image hasn’t given permission for it to be post.

The modification comes six months after nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and other celebrities went viral – with Twitter and Reddit being the landing spot of hacked snapshots. It will most likely disappoint members of a number of Reddit communities, for some of which use the platform to trade illegal photos taken without permission.

The policy shift will take effect on March 10. Any photograph, video or digital image of a person who is nude or engage in a sexual act is prohibite if the subject hasn’t given permission for it to be use. Anyone who wants an image of them removed from the site can email [email protected].

“I really want to believe that as we enter the next 10 years of Reddit life, essentially the most trafficked media site on the Internet, the opportunity here to set a standard for respecting the privacy of our users,” said Reddit co-founder and executive chairman Alexis Ohanian.
