MWC 2016 show makers LG and Samsung have both recently concluded their events. Both company’s showcased a few new innovations that many people accredited them for it while same say that it’s the usual same old stuff from their arsenal. Whichever side you bite, the two companies are truly looking proud of their recently introduced flagships and devices. With that, let’s take a peek at what got us going on the live streams and which brought out better guns.

The LG G5 and its various “friends”

The LG G5 made things really clear from their teasers, they were going for something fun and fun is surely something that they delivered. The LG G5 had a lot of very interesting feats that got everyone either bowling their eyeballs or sighing in amazement, one, in particular, is its modular type battery.

The LG G5’s modular type battery build enables a pretty convenient compartment on the bottom of the device, specifically built for removing and replacing batteries. So far, its the first of its kind and is clearly something innovative and refreshing. However, other than the said modular battery, it seems that nothing is rather new on the LG G5, exterior-wise so now we can move forward to the “fun” things, the LG “Friends”.

These Uhm, “friends” are devices that would improve the LG G5 or any LG mobile phone’s experience in a huge pinch. One of these toys, eh I mean, devices is the LG 360 Cam. The LG 360 Cam is actually pretty darn useful when you’re in a family escapade and everyone would simply post from different places. The LG 360 CAM enables a 200-degree spherical shot of everyone is equipped with 13MP rear snappers.

The other surprises include the LG rolling robot, a household monitoring drone that can watch over your pets back at home and can be controlled via LG mobile phone though it is yet to be confirmed if it can function on other LG handsets, other than the G5. The LG BB8-like drone can also emit infra-red waves that can be used to open certain appliances in your house. The last one is LG taking things into the VR world, with their introduction of the LG 360 VR headset. The LG 360 VR headset functions more or less like any typical VR headset. It seems that LG is kinda late with the VR stuff, but nevertheless, its better late than never.

LG focused more on variety and dishing out various ways to improve your experience on the handset though it felt rather gimmicky at times and wasn’t exactly something that was necessary. Nevertheless, LG did deliver the fun.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and its epic camera feature and performance

A few hours after LG took the stage, it was eventually time for Samsung to do their own announcements and oh boy their Galaxy S7 looks rather impressive on paper. Samsung showed a lot on their event and even had Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook to join in the party, however, a few memorable things that  came from Samsung’s announcement is on the camera side.

Its new 12MP rear shooter carries a f/1.7 sensor, which is heavily equipped with what Samsung is calling “Dual-pixel technology” wherein the focusing speed in low light is rather perfected and would generate better outputs. Samsung also provided examples that compared its outputs over the iPhone 6S Plus, which was seen to be more highly detailed than the latter. The more crisp and wider angled sensor, topped off with a powerhouse processor would surely be something to look forward to on the Galaxy S7  and S7 edge.

Another announcement that piqued my interest is in the performance category is the Vulkan powered Samsung Galaxy S7. Vulkan is a 3D graphic API that runs on some of the high-end games in consoles and seeing that particular API take it to mobile with graphics matching of off consoles is a fantastic sight to see. Imagine the possibilities of high-end gaming through your Galaxy S7.

LG is not the only one that presented a few interesting toys, Samsung themselves showed off the Samsung Gear 360 camera. A 360-degree camera that you can carry everywhere. The compact and very easy to use 360 cameras is gonna be interesting since 360 videos have slowly become a thing and I myself have recently watched a few “horror” 360 videos and found them to be quite entertaining and that’s even without any VR headset in hand.

It seems that Samsung’s focus in the S7 is more in performance heavy and feature heavy, which is in contrast with LG, but nevertheless both handsets did an excellent job in MWC 2016.

  1. On paper the LG G5 has a better camera than the S7 Edge. How come that I just can’t make any sharp vivid pictures with the LG G5?
