Qualcomm Snapdragon 625

Let’s start things off with the main attraction, the Snapdragon 625 might look like your typical and not-so-interesting chip, but upon closer inspection on its specs paper, one thing is obvious, it’s not as typical as some may think. The chipset is the first of the 600-series’ lineup to built-up 14nm process, which adds up to eight Cortex-A53’s and clocked at over 2GHz.

The latter is also the third in the 600-series to feature 4K UHD video, with 24MP camera and dual-ISP. It carries Cat 7 LTE, which sets a maximum speed of 300Mbps downloads and 100Mbps uploads. Other features include WiFi ac, Adreno 506 GPU and Quick Charge 3.0. The Snapdragon 625 consumes 35% less power than the Snapdragon 617, which makes the 625 a more efficient pick for mid-range handsets.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 and 435

Next up is the latest chipsets in the 400-lineup, the Snapdragon 425 carries a quad-core processor, Cortex-A53 up to 1.4GHz and a rather older Adreno 308 GPU. It also covers 1080p video shooting and a rather big 16MP max camera.

The chipset is using a relatively older X6 modem, which isn’t something to be excited about, but still takes a decent amount of power. The  X6 modem puts the chipset at Cat 4, with 150Mbps on downloads and 75Mbps on uploads. This also supports WiFi ac and Quick Charge 2.0.

As for the Snapdragon 435, things are a little bit better. The chip is built-in with a standard 28nm process. It has eight Core-A53’s and clocked over 1.4GHz, which is the standard bearing of a typical handset today. This one is offering up a better X8 modem, with Cat 7, running with 300Mbps for downloads and 100Mbps for uploads. Othe specs include WiFi ac,  and Quick charge 3.0. It also supports 1080p video recording.

The Snapdragon 425 and 435 pin compatible with the 400-series’ previous chip, the S430, which is actually good to know.

Snapdragon X16 modem

Qualcomm also announced very provocating innovations as well. The latest top-dog chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820, packs a powerful X12 modem, however, it seems that Qualcomm is looking to step up a little bit more with the introduction of the X16  LTE modem. The modem is said to reach 1Gbps (a whopping 1,000Mbps in a paper) download speed. This massive modem might yet to see the light of day yet though and is expected to head out sometime next year.
