A survivor of Supertyphoon ‘Yolanda’ finally found fortune after losing everything from the killer storm that almost wiped out Eastern Samar from the map more than a year ago.

The 56-year-old civil servant from Visayas claimed on Tuesday the jackpot he won in the February 21 draw of Lotto 6/42 which sums close to P24 million.

The winning numbers 02-10-13-26-27-41 were electronically generated through the lottery’s lucky pick feature. This lucky combination brought the sole winner a P23,683,644 prize.

Acting PCSO Chair and General Manager Ferdinand Rojas II said that the winner, who is a father of five children was ‘in tears’ when he claimed his prize at the head office of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) in Mandaluyong City.

He also added that the winner was ‘thankful’ to the agency for the chance given to his family – a chance to rebuild the properties that were ragged by the supertyphoon.

According to the report of Inquirer, the winner lost his house and small piggery when Yolanda devastated the Visayas in November 2013. That is why he is planning to build a new house for him and his wife in their town, and would also buy his children a house and lot in Cebu — where his children left for because of the hard economic conditions in their town. The winner also considers starting up a new business that is yet to be decided.

Just two weeks ago, another lucky player from the Eastern Visayas also won a P50-million jackpot from the lottery game.
