After being thrown by Newbee down to the Losers’ Finals, EG (Evil Geniuses), led by Andreas “Cr1t-“ Nielsen, went toe-to-toe with Team NP for a guaranteed 2nd place finish.

1 1

The Game 1 for LB went in favor of Team NP due to Johan “pieliedie” Åström’s great global presence with his Io efficiency. EG came up short in both the drafting and laning phase that slowly led to their demise.

EG vs NP Game 1 LB Finals Highlights:

The next game, however, went smoothly for EG. Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan’s iconic Storm Spirit went above and beyond by doing crucial Electric Vortices and punished NP whenever able. Artour “Arteezy” Babaev responded in kind by being efficient with his Juggernaut’s Omnislash and disrupted NP’s formation. This was definitely a highlight of the day as everyone in the Mall of Asia Arena cheered wildly for EG after being stomped on the previous game.

EG vs NP Game 2 LB Finals Highlights:

For the last LB game, a Faceless Void + Phoenix combo was drafted by EG mainly to counter a Batrider Lasso and eliminate Luna as soon as possible. There wasn’t much in the way of EG as the game went to mid-game even with Arif “MSS” Anwar’s Nightstalker’s early-game impact.

EG vs NP Game 3 LB Finals Highlights:

At the finals’ stage, EG’s first game against Newbee went smoothly due to a bad Ravage at the top lane by Damien “kphoenii”/”kpii” Chok that EG took advantage of and prevented any further advancements made my NP thereafter.

EG vs Newbee Game 1 Finals Highlights:

Despite being good at a late game setting, EG came up short on the second game due to NP’s numerous Roshan takedowns and raw efficiency.

EG vs Newbee Game 2 Finals Highlights:

EG showed Newbee what it meant to maintain lanes and disengage properly on the third match by having the lead. It was a battle of disables and raw outputs with EG relying more on the latter. EG showed no sign of stopping after taking the lead in the laning phase.

EG vs Newbee Game 3 Finals Highlights:

In what turned out to be fourth and last game of the series, tides were kept low on the until a dragged-out and all-out engagement near the Roshan pit at the 47-minute mark. It led to a straight T4 push by EG after taking down T3 bot tower. Buybacks were used and limits were tested, but EG prevailed due to their cores’ effective sustain and DPS (damage per second). Again, everyone went wild in the venue (including myself) and cheers for EG kept on going even after Newbee’s Zeng “Faith” Hongda conceded and called it a good game.

EG vs Newbee Game 4 Finals Highlights:

With EG going home $125,000 richer and with a secured invite for The International 2017, only time will tell if they would be able to prove their mettle yet again and potentially win the Aegis the second time around.
