The latest patent submission of LG Mobile in the US suggests that the Korean company is likely working on a smartphone with 16 cameras with a different combination of lenses (depth, portrait, wide-angle, black and white, etc.)
The idea sounds a bit stretched given that we already have camera phones with four lenses which are already more than enough (see Samsung Galaxy A9 2018 with quad cameras). However, there is already a company that manufactured a dedicated compact camera with 16 lenses called Light L16 that focuses on pixel combination. LG, on the other hand, is highlighting the benefits of the camera setup like you could select different angles and effects after the shots.
More cameras and lenses could also provide much accurate portrait shots against the current dual lens setup. But we will know more once the company decide to show off the prototype in the near future.
