The base model Moto G6 was one of the best budget smartphone offerings of 2018 due to its clean software and premium design for sub-$250. One year later, the successor – Moto G7 gets released to the public with a few upgrades along with the price. Will it be enough to keep its title in 2019? Let’s find out.

Taking a look at the design aspect of the two devices, both are looking identical to each other with the Moto G7 only having a larger screen size due to the extension of the notch as well as corner bezels. Make no mistake as it’s still the same IPS LCD panel of the same FHD+ resolution.

The biggest upgrade that you’re going to get on the Moto G7 is the Snapdragon 632 with slightly better GPU performance.

In terms of camera, it’s pretty much the same hardware with the 12MP + 5MP sensors on the back — with post-processing and optimization separating the two. However, you do get to record up to 4K resolution on the newer device. As for the selfie camera, that stays at 8MP.

With 2019 smartphones going for larger batteries, Moto, for some (dumb) reason, decided to stick with a meager 3000mAh battery. I mean, sure, they have clean software from Android but that’s not going to be enough if one wishes to be untethered to a wall. On the bright side, it’s still fast charges at 15W.

The Moto G6 launched with an official price of $250 while the Moto G7 will retail for $300 globally. For a small price bump, you also get a few upgrades. But what’s more interesting is when you start comparing it to the likes of Xiaomi phones.
