Great British Festival 2015: Different cultures are now turning up and we Filipinos are greatly immersing ourselves in it. Case in hand is our ardent love for the popular Kpop culture. Because of its music and fashion, the JPop culture for its advent of anime, the Western culture and a lot more. But have you ever experienced engaging yourself in a royal culture? Well, when I say royal here, it’s British of course!
Personally I have started my fandom with British culture after I saw. Prince William’s and Kate’s wedding on the television from years back. (It’s a fancy thing thinking about kings and queens like dreaming for fairytales to come true.) On the following years British icons such as Adele, One Direction. And Sam Smith rose to stardom which even heightened my interest.
Just then an opportunity came one day of March last year. The British Embassy here in Manila catered the first ever Great British Festival 2014! It was a 3-day celebration held at the Bonifacio High Street in Taguig. Where a lot of English Scottish and Irish people came to celebrate with Filipino fans!
Everything is literally British as popular landmarks were set-up like the London Bridge, Volkswagen cars, telephone booths, you name it. My friend and I ventured our day by ranging over the different booths like the education pavilion where you can get information about studying abroad as we are both interested in studying literature and film.Â
There was a game which my friend (she really is good in Harry Potter trivia) win a food voucher for a plate of British fish and chips with drinks. Yikes! And as a tribute to popular British singers, a stage was set-up for live acoustic covers of their songs. Of course we didn’t dare miss the open air cinema which played Harry Potter movie marathon the whole day! We ended our night watching One Direction’s movie This Is Us along with a great crowd of fans from different parts of the metro.
We sang along with other fans lounging in the grass under a perfect weather.. And this year, we are looking forward to spending our weekend to another amazing British feels!
Bigger, Better Great British Festival 2015!
Well save the dates on your calendar, too! As the British Embassy bring the Best of Britain back to Manila for another Great weekend with the bigger and better Great British Festival from February 27 to March 1 2015 at the Bonifacio High Street in Bonifacio Global City!
Now on its second year, Great British Festival 2015 is ready to showcase the unique mix of creativity, innovation, culture, heritage and knowledge that spell Britain’s success in fashion, music, sport, education and design.
This year, there will be new ways for those attending to get involve and win great prizes. A different show every night will thrill audiences at the ampitheatre – acoustic performances, a fashion show, an orchestra, a cooking demonstration and many more! Each night of the festival also gives audience members a chance to win prizes ranging from One Direction tickets to roundtrip tickets to the UK.
