2017 is indeed looking the year of dual camera, as claimed by Huawei. Meet the Huawei Honor 8.
Table of Contents
Design
Similar to the design cues of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the ASUS Zenfone 3, the Honor 8 is sandwiched by two glass panels that meets the metal frame which curves and chamfers towards the edges.

Starting from the most noticeable will be the dual camera setup beside the LED flash and sensors.
Sitting squarely at the upper back portion will be the fingerprint scanner.
The right side houses the power button and the opposite end is where the dual nano sim tray resides.
Up top is where you can find the IR blaster and secondary mic and below is where you can locate the headphone jack, usb type c port, a speaker grille, and another mic located inside the speaker grille.
Up front will be a 5.2-inch LTPS screen at 1080p.
The forehead houses the 8MP f2.4 camera together with the ambient light sensor and proximity sensor.
Nothing else can be seen on the front panel apart from the honor moniker which means onscreen navigation keys.
The phone feels solid and nice to the touch and it won’t require too much finger gymnastics.
It’s interesting to note that the IR blaster can double as a remote control for IR-enabled devices.
Display
The 5.2 inch LTPS gets good color reproduction and gets bright overall. Images are crisp and colors are accurate.
Camera
The Huawei Honor 8 will be using a dual 12 MP f/2.2 sensor for the rear camera as your main shooter.
Images taken on broad daylight gave a smooth rendition and natural color reproduction.
The same quality is seen here on indoors with ample lighting.
Taking photos with low-light resulted in blurry images. The LED flash will aid in providing a pale but sharper rendition of the same image.
Night shooting was also able to capture fair details with more lights in tow.
Video recording can take up to 1080p @ 60fps with some over sharpness.
The 8MP selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture will be on the smoother side, provided you have decent lighting.
Performance
Under the hood, we have a HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC, an octa-core CPU that goes up to 2.3Ghz with 4GB RAM.
The EMUI 4.1 of the Honor 8 will not come with any pre-installed Google apps but this can be easily downloaded through the Baidu app.
Daily tasks such as texting, browsing, watching and casual gaming will be a piece of cake for the Honor 8, thanks to the 900 series Kirin. When playing graphic intensive games such as mobile legends and real racing 3, the Honor 8 rendered a smooth experienceoverall.
The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor performed fast and accurate with a perfect 10 out of 10 tries for us.
Battery
The 3000mAh battery pack was pretty average for us during testing.
Our endurance test lasted only about 17hours of stand by time with 3.5hours of screen on time.

Good thing it has Smart Power 4.0 which played a role in achieving an hour and a half in filling its tank.
Audio
The single bottom firing speaker is pretty neat with a bit of bass into the mix.
Pricing and verdict
Huawei Honor 8 currently retails in Lazada for Php14,990 or $301 USD.
The Huawei Honor 8 is a good buy considering you’re getting 2016 flagship specifications package in a mid-ranged budget.
