Zenfone no more? Well, that might be the case once the new roadmap and restructure will happen inside the Asus mobile department as their current CEO, Jerry Shen, resigned effective in January 2019.
The Taiwanese brand has been struggling with mobile competition lately especially in keeping up with the budget and flagship segment of the market. The likes of Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi are growing rapidly in emerging markets while other brands start to fade like the HTC.
With the restructuring, Asus promises to focus on power users and gamers on which their strength lies with. Their ROG brand is one of the most successful in PC gaming segment and the brand is looking to push it on mobile too. The recently launched ROG Phone might be pricier but it is a solid and attractive flagship Android smartphone that focuses on gaming.
The future of Asus Zenfone is unclear now because we do not know if the company will continue it or just concentrate on the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand starting next year.
