Google has conducted tests to help 911 operators to figure out the exact location of the emergency callers more accurately than before. Google’s testing trials totaled for about tens of thousands of 911 calls, and according to the report by The Wall Street Journal, the call center agents assigned were able to get more accurate information about the callers’ location for about 80%.

West Corp. and RapidSOS were the call center agent companies who helped Google facilitate the tests, and according to RapidSOS, the tests covered about two and a half million people in Texas, Tennessee, and Florida.

Currently, the wireless carriers are normally responsible for providing location information of the 911 callers, however, it’s not very accurate. But thanks to Google’s tests, it is said that about 80 percent of the 911 calls had more accurate location data within the first 30 seconds.

Google’s location technology is currently available in 14 countries only, but the company said that it hopes to bring it to the US. Of course, we’re hoping that Google will also bring the technology in many more countries as well.
