Honor, Huawei’s sub-brand, just launched the Honor Play, a gaming phone. Recently, a lot of gaming phones have started appearing like the Razer phone, the Xiaomi Black Shark, and of course, the newly released Asus ROG phone. Unfortunately, most of these smartphones are pricey since they contain high-end specs that improve the gaming experience. Because of this, Honor decided to create an affordable gaming phone, hence, the Honor Play.

The Honor Play features a 6.3″ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It is powered by the Kirin 970 along with the GPU Turbo which will aid in boosting performance. The company also included their Histen audio in order to provide 3D sounds and 7.1 channel virtualization. The phone comes in two storage variants, a 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage and a 6GB RAM + 64GB or storage. In addition, it is fueled by a 3750 mAh battery and runs on Android 8.1.

Honor Play color variants

This may not be important for a gaming phone but the Honor Play features a 16MP + 2MP dual rear camera which is powered by Kirin’s AI core, the NPU, and a 16MP front camera with 3D Portrait lighting.

Although the Honor Play sports the Kirin 970 chipset, it has an affordable price of CNY 2,000 (approx. PHP 16,419) for the 4GB variant and CNY 2,400 (approx. PHP 19,702) for the 6GB variant. The smartphone arrived in the colors – Black, Blue, and Violet. The device will be available for pre-order on June 11.
