Back to the Future II has created quite an impact on me when I was a child. 2015 of that time looks absolutely cool in my own special way more specifically what I found cool was the hover boards. If you’ve watched the movies yourselves, you would have known what these babies can do and just like their name suggests, they hover. However, Back to the Future II’s 2015 wasn’t exactly that far off from ours, well in terms of hover boards anyways. But unlike in the movies, our hoverboards are a little off and sometimes dangerous than it looks.

Not exactly Hover boards

One particular thing that you’ll notice is that today’s actual hoverboards aren’t exactly “hover boards to begin with, which is pretty convoluted if you ask us. Today’s hover boards are packed with two wheels and function similar to any two-wheeled ride, except you have to stand up for using them, instead of sitting down, which is quite good in theory since standing up enables better maneuverability and steering, since you’re actually more alert than while sitting.

It’s funny that today’s hoverboards are still being called hover boards since they’re not exactly hovering over the floor. This sounds way too inclined to marketing than meets the eye. It seems that manufacturers wanted to cash in on the hoverboard idea and develop something rather different that what was intended or, at least, develop something that can, at least, be close to a hover board.

A marketing stunt or not, these rolling boards found their way into the masses and has become quite a boom back in 2015.

The danger of today’s hover boards

Hoverboards that we use today have been part of many fire-related incidents in 2015 and as the market for the device reach new heights, so is its incident rates. They’re have been known to explode and cause house fires, which can be blamed to their lithium-ion batteries that have volatile and highly flammable substance within them.

Many others speculate that the cause of the fires are all related to charger misuse or the improper use of the specific charger assigned for the device, though many contradict this theory, since many hoverboards carry around a specific type of charger that is quite different from normal chargers, meaning they can only be charged by that particular charger.

Despite being highly popular to the youth market, these ticking time bomb rides are quite dangerous in their own rights. They can set off anytime and by unexpected scenarios, while adding to the threat is the seemingly mass-produced low-grade hoverboards that some company distributed, just to cash out some extra cash.

Now then? Are hoverboards still something that you would want your kid’s or love ones to stand on? Remember this and always stay on the safe side.
