How to apply for Tax Identification Number in the Philippines

Long lines with an even longer process   that’s what Filipino’s were struggling in processing documents here in the country. But, thanks to technology, government adapted the online registrations so that we no longer have to be outside our houses to process documents.

Welcome aboard in labor force! You’ve got to a right place. Here, we will guide you through online process of BIR’s TIN e-Registration.

First, are you eligible for getting a TIN number? Which type of taxpayer do I fall under?

Yes, if you are one of these following people:

  1. Single Proprietors
  2. Professionals
  3. Local Employees
  4. Mixed-Income Earners
  5. Persons Registering Under E.O. 98

However, online application is only allowed for self-employed, mixed-income earners, individuals or employees earning purely compensation income and people registered under Executive Order 98. Check out the BIR E-Registration portal here.

What are the forms I need?

These are the forms needed to be filled up when applying for Tax Identification Number, depends on how you are classified.

  1. BIR Form 1901 – These are for the registration of self-employed and mixed-income individuals, estates/trusts doing/just starting a business, or opening a new branch for registration. (Download PDF file here)
  2. BIR Form 1902 – These are for the registration of old or new employee whether resident citizen or non-resident citizens earning purely compensation income. (Download PDF file here)
  3. BIR Form 1903 – These are for the registration of Corporations, Government Owned or controlled corporations Partnerships, Government Agencies, and Instrumentalities, (GAI’s) and Local Government Units (LGU’s). (Download PDF file here)
  4. BIR Form 1904 – These are for the registration of one-time taxpayer and persons registering and applying for a TIN (E.O. 98). (Download PDF file here)

SELF-EMPLOYED AND MIXED INCOME INDIVIDUALS

Document Requirements

Tax Form – BIR Form 1901

  1. BIR Form 1901
  2. The government issued identification that proves your name, address and birth date.
  3. Photocopy of Mayor’s Business Permit; or Duly received Application for Mayor’s Business Permit, if the former is still in process with the LGU; and/or Professional Tax Receipt/Occupational Tax Receipt issued by the LGU [For Professionals where PTR is not required (e.i. Consultants, Agents, Artist, Underwriters & the like)]; or DTI Certificate;
  4. Proof of Payment of Annual Registration Fee (ARF) (if with existing TIN or applicable after TIN issuance)
  5. BIR Form 1906 (Download PDF file here)
  6. Principal Receipts/ Invoices
  7. NSO Birth Certificate
  8. Marriage Contract (if applicable)
  9. Professional Regulation Commission ID (if applicable)
  10. Occupational Tax Receipt or Professional Tax Receipt
  11. Contract or Company Certificate of Employment
  12. Special Power of Attorney (SPA) and ID of authorized person, in case of authorized representative who will transact with the Bureau (if applicable)
  13. Certificate of Public Convenience (if applicable)
  14. Trust Agreement for Trusts (if applicable)
  15. Photocopy of the Death Certificate of the deceased (if applicable)
  16. Authority, if Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBE) registered entity certificate (if applicable)
  17. BOI/BOI-ARMM, PEZA, BCDA and SBMA proof of registration permit (if applicable)

Procedures

  1. Filled up BIR Form 1901 and 1906 together with document requirement with the New Business Registrant Counter of the RDO.
  2.  Pay Php 500.00
  3. Pay Documentary Stamp Tax (DST) (loose DST / BIR Form 2000* for DST on Contract of Lease, etc).
  4. Present proofs of payment.
  5. Wait for the RDO to issue Certificate of Registration (Form 2303) together with the “Ask for Receipt” notice.

ESTATES & TRUSTS

Document Requirements

Tax Form – BIR Form 1901

  1. BIR Form 1901
  2. Photocopy of the Death Certificate of the deceased and judicial settlement
  3. NSO Birth Certificate or any valid ID
  4. DTI Certificate of Registration Business Name (if applicable)
  5. Certificate of Authority if Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBE) (if applicable)
  6. Proof of Registration/Permit to Operate with Board of Investment (BOI/Board of Investment for Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BOI-ARMM) (if applicable)
  7. Philippine Export Zone Authority (PEZA) (if applicable)
  8. Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) (if applicable)
  9. Certification of Employment (if applicable)
  10. Marriage Contract (if applicable)

Procedures

  1. Fill up the BIR Form 1901 and together with the attached requirements, submit to the Revenue District Office or RDO
  2. Pay the Php 500.00 Annual Free

INDIVIDUALS EARNING PURELY COMPENSATION INCOME

Document Requirements

Tax Form – BIR Form 1902

  1. BIR Form 1902
  2. NSO Birth Certificate or any valid ID
  3. Mariage Contract (if applicable)
  4. For Alien Employee – Passport
  5. Certificate of Employment

Procedures

  1. Fill up the BIR Form 1902 and together with the attached requirements, submit to your employer.
  2. The sections of the application form shall be done by the employer.
  3. Submit BIR Form 1902 to the Revenue District Office (RDO) having jurisdiction over the place of office of the employer where such employee is expected to report for work.

NON-RESIDENT CITIZENS

Document Requirements

Tax Form – BIR Form 1902

  1. Passport with Visa
  2. NSO Birth Certificate or any valid ID
  3. Certificate of Employment

Procedures

  1. Accomplish BIR Form 1902 and submit the same, together with the required attachments, to the RDO having jurisdiction over the place of residence of the applicant.
