HTC entry-level smartphones takes the exit

It seems that the Taiwanese manufacturer can’t handle any more damage on its profitability as they decided to cut-off entry-level HTC smartphones.

This was confirmed through a conference call wherein HTC discussed with the media about its fourth quarter financial results.

HTC admitted that it’s a tough fought battle when venturing in the entry-level market. It’s actually true since you have names such as Xiaomi, OPPO, and Huawei, in which they focus on high-end smartphones for an affordable price.

In addition, HTC does not want to risk the slim chance of making money in the entry-level market as they try to increase their profitability.

Based on the pricing of HTC smartphones for the past year, you’ll notice that the cost chimes in with the likes of Samsung. It’s pricey with arguably yet reasonable specs and features.

Despite the repeal, software updates will continue to roll out and recently released entry-level smartphones will stay on the shelves.

With that being said, expect the company to release around six to seven smartphones this year. This will only include from mid-range up to the flagship category.

So far, only the flagship HTC U Ultra and mid-range HTC U Play are officially marketed around the world.
