The Windows 10-powered Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are expected to become available this end of the month featuring the Windows Hello iris recognition which already made available on some latest high-end laptops and PCs (e.g. Surface Book).

A new video has surfaced online, before the official release of these phones, showing the new iris scanner in-action. We’re not sure if the device on the video is a retail or final unit but it’s good see the speedy Windows Hello feature of Lumia 950 XL.

We estimated that based from the video the setup stage could take 10-20 seconds while the iris recognition took about 1 to 2 seconds depending on how far your Lumia is from your face.

The fingerprint sensor has been seen already in the market of computers, years before the first smartphones had it. And right now, it just starting to become standard in high-end phones. But the arrival of face and eyes scanners for phones, like the new Iris Scanner, is expected to replace the fingerprint sensor as a standard to future mobile devices. Surely, that will happen faster if Microsoft will continue to develop and improve their Windows Hello.

Based from our research, at least, there are three cameras on front of Lumia 950 and 950 XL to cater the selfie needs as well as to make the Windows Hello iris recognition possible and reliable.

Microsoft also assures that the iris recognition will work at night and even when you have your glass. The accuracy is up to a level where it can separate twins.

Are you excited for the Windows Hello too?
