Launched together with new Lumia smartphones in Microsoft event today, the Surface Pro 4 brings new features and improved specs over its Surface predecessor.
The Surface Pro 4 sports larger display while maintaining the lightweight and slim form factor. Its 12.3-inch IPS LCD display is sharper, thanks to the PixelSense technology that gives 267ppi. On top of the display is a very thin Gorilla Glass 4 protection, maintained at 0.4mm thick. Overall, the Surface Pro 4 is an upgrade to Surface Pro 3Â in terms of design while reducing the thickness and weight.
Behind the display is an Intel Core M3, i5 or i7 (Intel Iris GPU) chipset options with 4GB, 8GB or 16GB RAM support. Base model for storage is now 128GB with maximum of 1TB SSD PCI-e. Microsoft promises that Surface Pro 4 is 50% faster than MacBook Air, probably they are referring to the latest models of MBA.
In terms of multimedia needs, the back houses 8MP main sensor while the front has 5MP for selfie and video calls. Ports include full-sized USB 3.0, display port and SD card slot.
Alongside with the Surface Pro 4 is the announcement of improved Surface Pen that has now analog eraser, magnetic dock support, replaceable tips and more precise output. The new TypeCover has been revamped by Microsoft too sporting fingerprint sensor, 40% more trackpad area – which is now glass – and more tactile keys.
Base model of Surface Pro 4 with Pen starts at $900 or roughly P40k Philippine pesos before taxes, the TypeCover is sold separately.
