Oppo F1s vs Asus Zenfone 3 Comparison + Camera Review

After reviewing the Oppo F1s we finally put it to a more objective comparison. The Asus Zenfone 3 is the first mid-ranger Android we put it side-by-side to the selfie-centric smartphone. Let’s find out below which is a better Android to buy.

Design and build

The biggest leap in terms of design is can be found on the Zenfone 3. It features curved glasses up front and its back while sporting a new USB Type-C port and fingerprint scanner.

For the Oppo F1s, it’s still a noticeable iPhone 6 imitation minus the antenna strips and unibody design. The Oppo F1s has a snappy fingerprint sensor too but half of its exterior is made of plastic.

Both carry dual SIM card support with a dedicated slot on the Oppo F1s. However, the device lacks LED notification light whereas the Zenfone 3 features one even on the last year’s Zenfone 2.

Overall, the Zenfone 3 is a more compelling device to choose from if you want a sleeker and premium looking Android.

Display

Although the output for the 5.5-inch panel with Gorilla Glass 4 proofing of Oppo F1s is bright and legible, the unimpressive 720p or HD resolution produces less pixel density compared to the Zenfone 3 with 1080p resolution and Gorilla Glass 3. The quality on the latter has noticeably wider gamut or more vivid color reproduction concluding our choice to pick the latter as the winner in the display category.

Camera

The main camera on the Asus Zenfone 3 is 16MP f2.0 that shoots really good still with its accurate colors and fine details. It’s also better than the 13MP main camera of the Oppo F1s which produces pale and mediocre photos, especially in the night.

Aside from the top-notch quality on the Zenfone shooter, the additional OIS, and 4K video easily trump the main camera of the Oppo F1s.

Perhaps the only advantage of the Oppo F1s in camera section is its 16MP selfie shooter that takes overly brighten portrait photos. The detail preservation is also higher than on the 8MP snapper of Zenfone 3.

For the overall camera, the Zenfone 3 is undoubtedly miles better compared to the “selfie expert” of Oppo.

Performance and benchmark

The Asus Zenfone 3 beats the Oppo F1s in terms of actual performance and benchmark, thanks to its higher-clocked Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor and powerful graphics than on the Mediatek of the latter.

The RAM of the Zenfone 3 can be maxed out up to 4GB and 64GB storage while the Oppo F1s gets a 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage combo.

It’s also worth mentioning the Oppo F1s is running on a dated Android 5.1 Lollipop while the Zenfone 3 on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Battery and charging

Although the Zenfone 3’s battery life has improved over the Zenfone 2, the 2600mAh on ZE520KL averagely last a whole day whereas the Oppo F1s with 3000mAh offers a few hours longer. The low resolution on the latter also gives a lead in battery consumption over the high-res resolution of the former.

Despite using 2A power adapter on both, the Oppo F1s takes longer to fill from 0% to 100% even than the Zenfone 3 with a 3000mAh battery. Still, we give this round to the Oppo for its extra more hours in endurance.

Audio

Both utilize bottom-firing mono speakers but only the Zenfone 3 outputs a clean and loud audio. The Oppo F1s sounded tinny and the lack of high-res audio upscaling is disappointing considering its retail price.

Pricing and Verdict

With a P13,000 price or roughly $280, it’s really hard to recommend the Oppo F1s unless you really plan to take a lot of selfie photos. But if not, then the Asus Zenfone 3 is a lot better and smarter choice. The ZE520KL model price starts at P13,990 pesos with 3GB RAM (online stores) and the top-end variant setting you back up for P16,995 pesos (official warranty).

  1. I still love my OPPO F1S although i havent tried even hold an ASUS Zenfone 3 (which btw i planned to buy 1st). Regardless OPPO F1s might not be perfect but im a simple user no games but this phone is just right for me. Which is better is subjective. So far so good i love my OPPO F1S even though the OS is dated. If its usable then im for it. FYI it has LED notification light on the top left corner with white light.

  2. A good phone from Asus. Solid build quality. The size is almost the same as the zenfone 5. Fast and efficient fingerprint sensor. Great camera gives good quality photos both outdoors and indoors. Super bright screen makes reading in sunlight easy. The processor and 3gb ram make sure there are no lags whatsoever. This phone is well worth the money spent. In strong comparison with Oppo F1s I would suggest Zenfone 3 is too good.
