Ever since the arrival of notches, the smartphone industry has been hard at work in making the perfect display. Fortunately, it looks like we don’t have to wait longer as OPPO teases and brags its under-screen selfie camera technology. That said, two things come to mind — it’s coming and it’s going to be affordable.

In a tweet from OPPO’s verified account, a prototype phone is shown with a full-screen display. As for the selfie camera, it’s apparently embedded in the display — kinda similar to how under-screen fingerprint scanner works.

If history is any indication, we could see phones with this type of technology as early as 2020. When Vivo (OPPO’s sister company) launched the Nex sporting a pop-up selfie camera, its mid-range phones almost immediately adopted the technology. A few months later, the world has been plagued with motorized cameras, with some going crazy like the Samsung Galaxy A80 and Asus Zenfone 6.
Could we see the same thing happening for the under-screen selfie camera? Most likely. This time, it’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when.
