Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC with Quick Charge 4 now official

Announced last 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong on Tuesday, another Qualcomm mobile platform is unveiled. Qualcomm introduced their Snapdragon 636 chipset that sports an X12 LTE modem with download speed up to 600 Mbps.

Paired with an Adreno 509 improved GPU, the Snapdragon 636 is Kryo 260 with eight cores, clocked up to 1.8 GHz. Not only that but the chipset boasts up to 40 percent device performance and 10 percent gaming performance than the 630 processor with Adreno 508. The SoC also backs resolution up to FHD+ or 2160×1080 pixels.

With the Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP, the 636 could support cameras with a setup of either one 24 MP camera or two cameras with up to 16 MP sensors. Expected to ship in November, Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 is also equipped with QuickCharge 4.

“The Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform uses a 14nm FinFet process, and is pin and software compatible with the Snapdragon 660 and 630 mobile platforms, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) already using these platforms to quickly and efficiently add Snapdragon 636 to their device line-ups.”
