The Philippines is slowly growing into the age of smartphones. Everyday, we always depend on our smartphone to get us through the day and with ease, and although this is not exactly a bad thing, there have been many stereotypes that have been born through our exposure to the Smartphone world. In regards, we figured to share our thoughts on six common stereotypes of smartphone users here in the Philippines.

The social media heavy user
We can’t deny the impact the social media has done to our society. It has created pathways to, otherwise boundary-full communication obstacles, which seemingly made everyone connected with one press of a button. Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, have not only revolutionized the way we communicate, but also revolutionize the way we express ourselves and offer our opinions to other people. it has standardized web communication and has somehow helped in transcending our communication capability into limitless boundaries. However, it did also deliver a few negative effects in return for the transcending. People now, have become obsessed with their social media life, rather than there life in general. People, often would rather chat with people online, rather than meet them in person, and spawned countless criminal acts to be initiated by the said, medium. In the Philippines, we are not safe from these effects. People who purchases smartphones, sometimes heavily use the device for the sole purpose of social media activities. A trait that is heavily being improved through the introduction of new social media sources. The social media heavy user is typically not a dangerous stereotype, although they make themselves prone to many dangers on the different social medias they encounter on their everyday lives.

The corporate high spender
The corporate high spender is the typical corporate individual who aims to get the best at all times, especially on communication. This is an individual who don’t exactly mind spending a bunch for the utility of a smartphone. Focusing heavily on the many features of a particular smartphone that can assist them in their corporate life. The corporate high spender are the those who are easily irritated by a smartphones fault error and can immediately take action in this faulting. They’re heavily serious and always on-the-go, these individuals take things very formal and want to take their smartphones in a formal way as well.

The newbie user
The newbie user is likely someone who hasn’t touch a smartphone in their life. Typically, these could either be 90’s kids, such as myself, who were only introduced to the smartphone world a few years ago. The elderly could also be a part of this stereotype, since they most likely haven’t had experience with a smartphone themselves, though, some elderly has more noticeable knowledge in smartphones that meets the eye, which is relatively accepted and praised. The newbie user oftentimes needs the help of other people to decide, whether what device best suits them. They heavily rely on other peoples opinions and judgements, as well as their own research capabilities to find that particular phone that’ll suit them best. The best users are oftentimes the newbie users, since they are not yet heavily exposed to the dangers of smartphones, so guiding newbie users to not recklessly use their smartphone should be a top priority, for those whose guiding them to the smartphone world.

The smartphone fashionista
The smartphone fashionista is one of those rare smartphone users that treat they’re devices as fashion tools. They intend to treat there devices as a status symbol, creating a trend of smartphone craze in the masses. They also try to be get there smartphone as personalized as possible, with the usually add-on apps for wallpapers and whatnot, as well as decorating the exterior of there devices, with customized accessories and stickers. This is technically one of the most harmless of the types, but are ridiculed by the majority of people in the smartphone universe. Many hate them for using their devices as a status symbol, which shows off their status disposition in the country. They’re ridiculed for boasting things too much, though some simply don’t aim to boast it off. The smartphone fashionistas are  usually students from a  well-off family and are either fashion icons in real life or gadget style bloggers in real life.

The affordability seeker
These are the buyers who aim to get as much in what they buy as possible. The affordability seekers, such as their name suggest, seeks affordable deals in purchasing a smartphone. These people oftentimes would highly focus on getting the most affordable phone in the market and might resort to even buying low-end or second hand devices. A normalcy seen in them is their desire to buy the devices via a need or urge to have a smartphone. the social media users are the predecessors of this part of the list and it could even branch out from the newbie users. A good example of this branching is when a newbie user finds a cheap smartphone, which since the newbie user has no idea of whats a good smartphone or not is, buys the device in hopes to get to the smartphone world ASAP. He/she then becomes one of the affordability seekers. Another example is for the social media users, you from the affordability seekers point-of-view would purchase a well functioning and affordable smartphone for the sole purpose of their social media activities. So, truth be told, these types of smartphone users could branch out between any part of this list.

The technical buyer
The technical buyer is smartphone user that would purchase a smartphone via its specs and features and what not. They are heavily focused on a smartphones system function and performance and would rather go a bit out of their buck limit to get them. These are most likely reviewers such as us, or gadget bloggers. They are always updated with the recent announcements and launches on the smartphone world, and the most reliable source of information for the newbie users. They are highly very particular in their choices and would have their own preferences in a smartphones feature. They are heavily technical, having certain knowledge in smartphone that a normal individual won’t have, which helps them get the most on their deals. A bunch of true blue experts, these guys are always ready to dish out at argument, whenever an affordability seeker gets in their way and would likely respond with various technical terminologies and information that might not exactly be understandable to some people.
