Sony Philippines has just launched the Xperia C4 in the market for around P16k price. The Xperia C4 is the selfie phone successor to Xperia C3. We compared the two to find out if the Xperia C4 is better and worth an upgrade from Xperia C3.

Design and build
The flat and edgy form factor of Xperia C3 is now gone in the Xperia C4. The successor is now utilizing rounded metal frame with improved screen-to-body ratio and reduced overall dimension.
The back retains most of the accent except on the speaker grill which is now smaller and positioned on the left side of the Xperia logo at the bottom.
Placement of ports are still on the left side. Sony placed the microSD and nanoSIM at the same tray.
With reduced dimensions and retained weight, Xperia C4 is easier to handle than its predecessor.
Overall design of the Xperia C4 has been influenced by the Xperia Z-series which is subtle and classy yet not too flat nor edgy.
Display
One of the key feature that improved much on Xperia C4 is the new 1080p FHD display up from the 720p on Xperia C3. Brightness and clarity are excellent. Colors are now punchier making the Xperia C4 with one of the best display in mid-range class even matching those in the high-end flagships.
Camera
Sony upgraded the cam from 8MP to 13MP. Still images and videos taken on Xperia C4 are bright and have more resolved details. The issue is the post-processing algorithms on the C4 that produce too soft details. These are only noticeable with close inspection and through comparison. Overall image quality is OK for a mid-range device and better than Xperia C3.
Performance and benchmark
Powered by octacore Mediatek 6752, 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage, Xperia C4 is much faster than Xperia C3. Boot up speed is slower but it is understandable given the C4 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop while Xperia C3 is still on KitKat when we tested both. Results in actual test and benchmarks are much promising on Xperia C4.
Speaker
We found that the Xperia C4 has one of the best speaker quality in the mid-range category. Compared to the mediocre speaker of Xperia C3 the highs are clear with good detail, the bass is well-formed and the overall sound is powerful yet not tinny.
Price, Verdict
If you’re coming from Xperia C3 and planning to upgrade to Xperia C4 the price difference is really worth it. The Xperia C4 brings major improvements especially on the hardware side of the device.
