Sony Xperia XZ Premium – ultimate high-end phone
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium reflects too much that it can (probably) replace your mirror. Literally, a mirror. Sony felt like their 2016 smartphones lacked innovation. Thinking that innovation keeps you in front of your competitors, the newly announced device surely screams innovation too much.
Shiny smartphones look to be the new trend for flagship tier as the Xperia XZ Premium reeks nothing but with glossy and reflective body. And when we say glossy, we mean a glass front and back with both Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Color availability lets you choose from Deepsea Black and Luminous Chrome. We suggest you get the latter if you want a smartphone/mirror.
It’s a 5.5-inch device wherein Sony crammed in a world’s first 4K HDR display. Though, Sony already did have a 4K smartphone before(Xperia Z5 Premium), the HDR element adds better color reproduction resulting in more realistic images.
Customers can already take advantage of the 4K HDR content that will be coming from Amazon through its partnership.
The design language and the display of the Xperia XZ Premium sound great so far but wait until you see the camera, or as Sony likes to call it – memory-stacked camera.
Memory-Stacked Camera
By embedding a fast memory into the camera stack, a new camera technology called Motion Eye is born. In other words, it lets you record slow motion video by 4x slower than current smartphones out there at 960fps on 720p resolution. Not 1080p, but only 720p.
One thing that really defines the point-and-shoot game of smartphones is the triple-sensor system of the device. You have laser AF, an RGBC infrared sensor, and an updated ExmorRS image sensor.
All these sensors play on producing a detailed and accurate image rendition in just a quick snap of the camera. Or technically “anti-distortion shutter” as Sony calls it.
Now that’s done, let’s go to the basics. The rear camera, basically, packs in a 19MP sensor that can record up to 4K resolution with some help from SteadyShot 5-axis digital stabilization. Moving to the front is a 13MP sensor with a 22mm wide-angle lens.
And we are not done yet, it just gets interesting from here. Samsung apparently hoarded all the supplies of the Snapdragon 835, but that did not stop Sony from getting one for its own.
Aside from the Galaxy S8, the Xperia XZ Premium will also come with the latest Snapdragon 835 paired with 4GB of RAM. It will get you started with 64GB of onboard storage with an option for expanding via microSD card slot. It also runs Android Nougat, of course, together with a 3,230mAh battery pack.

The XZ Premium is delayed around May since it still has to wait for the chipset availability. At that time, Galaxy S8 is already out. Pricing was not announced but we will update this post once we know more.
