The OPPO F7, Selfie expert, was released in the Philippines this April. It was a huge hit especially for users who love taking selfies. In lieu of this, the company have decided to release a more affordable version of this smartphone named the OPPO F7 Youth which was launched here in the Philippines this May.

The question is, what exactly are the differences and similarities between the two and which specs of the OPPO F7 Youth was downgraded? Let’s find out here.

OPPO F7 and OPPO F7 Youth similarities

  • Android 8.1 Oreo
  • Mediatek MT6771 Helio P60
  • Mali-G72 MP3

The OPPO F7 features a 6.23″ IPS LCD notched display with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It is slightly larger than OPPO F7 Youth’s 6.0″ IPS LCD display. Another difference in terms of their display is that the OPPO F7 sports the infamous notch whereas the OPPO F7 Youth doesn’t. How it’s an advantage or a disadvantage will depend on the user since some favor the notch and some don’t. Unlike the OPPO F7 Youth, the OPPO F7 is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Under the hood, both are powered by the Mediatek MT6771 Helio P60 along with a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. Their difference lies on their storage variants in which the OPPO F7 has a 6GB RAM/128GB internal storage variant. The two devices also run on Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5.0. It’s good to know that there isn’t that much of a difference in the two smartphone’s hardware specs.

Unlike their hardware, a lot was downgraded in the OPPO F7 Youth’s camera setup. The OPPO F7 originally has a 16 MP rear camera with phase-detection autofocus and an LED flash. Meanwhile, the OPPO F7 Youth only has a 13 MP main camera with the same camera features like the OPPO F7. What changed drastically was the OPPO F7 Youth’s 8 MP front camera since the OPPO F7 has a 25 MP selfie snapper. This makes us wonder if the OPPO F7 Youth can live up to OPPO’s “Selfie expert” name. We’ll have to compare both cameras to be sure.

For security, both have a Face Unlock feature. Usually, a smartphone would have a fingerprint scanner but not a Face Unlock feature. In this case, however, the OPPO F7 Youth lacks a Fingerprint scanner unlike the OPPO F7. The OPPO F7’s fingerprint scanner is located at the rear of the phone.

Instead of downgrading the OPPO F7 Youth’s battery, OPPO seems to have increased its battery capacity instead. The OPPO F7 Youth is fueled by a 3410mAh battery whereas the OPPO F7 has a 3400mAh battery.

After reading the similarities and differences between both devices, which of the two do you prefer more? Is the downgraded version of the OPPO F7 worth buying?
