Which is a better buy between the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro?
Design and Display
Whichever of the two you get, both has the same design and footprint. However, Realme 5 is a lot heavier due to the larger 5000mAh battery. Despite having the same holographic design, we can’t tell if both are sporting glass backing. Realme has not indicated this either. Given the affordable price tags, it’s easy to assume that plastic is being used for both.
In terms of display quality, there’s a noticeable difference. Only the Realme 5 Pro comes with FHD+ resolution. As a result, you can playback higher video quality. But the 720p+ resolution of Realme 5 will surely deliver better battery performance, due to the lower number of pixels.

Performance
Snapdragon 665 is a decent gaming chipset in 2019. It also has incredible efficiency. That said, gaming isn’t the top priority of Realme 5. If you’re looking for that, you’ll get that out of the Realme 5 Pro that comes with a Snapdragon 712. It has higher clock speeds and boosted GPU. It’s also one of the few phones to come out with the latest gaming-centric mid-range chipset from Qualcomm. Lastly, the storage uses UFS 2.1 which delivers faster reading and transfer speeds.
Cameras
For those who want the robustness of Realme 5 Series’ cameras, you can get them on either phone. However, the Realme 5 Pro will output better image quality (at least, when using the main sensor) due to its 48MP Sony sensor. Furthermore, video recording allows slow motion in 720p @ 960fps. Although Realme 5 can do up to 4K @ 30fps, it only support slow-mo at 1080p @ 120/240fps.
The same goes for selfie sensors. However, the overall quality should not be too far away from each other. After all, we’re only looking at 16MP vs 13MP.
Audio
Luckily, the audio experience is complete. Both have the option to use a wired headphone or the built-in standard speakers.
Battery and Charging
Due to the combination of 5000mAh and 720p resolution, expect the Realme 5 to be a beast in longevity. However, you are stuck with 10W charging. With that huge tank to recharge, expect zero to 100 in at least 2 hours.
Although the Realme 5 Pro has a smaller yet generous 4035mAh battery, it makes it up with 20W VOOC charging that takes 1.38 hours to full charge. You can also comfortably play games while charging.
Prices
- 3GB/32GB – Realme 5 – Rs. 9,999 or around P7.2k
- 4GB/64GB – Realme 5 – Rs. 10,999 or roughly P8k
- 4GB/128GB – Realme 5 – Rs. 11,999 or nearly P9k
- 4GB/64GB – Realme 5 Pro – Rs. 13,999 or ~P10k
- 6GB/64GB – Realme 5 Pro – Rs. 14,999 or nearly ~P11k
- 8GB/128GB – Realme 5 Pro – Rs. 13,999 or nearly P12,500
Conclusion
While their official Philippine prices aren’t available yet, Realme 5 Series has aggressive pricing in India. It’s also unbelievable to get an 8GB phone within this price point. Whichever you get, we do think it’s worth getting. But if you can, we suggest getting the best model of Realme 5 Pro. It gives a bit of flexibility in storage management and a bit of headroom for the next year of its use.
