Music has been a big part of our lives. What was once a luxury, is now a necessity. Due to this, more and more people have been making an effort to buy quality products for listening to music. Its important that these devices are durable, portable, and creates a crystal-clear sound.

Last year, JBL rolled out the JBL Pulse 3 which the company deemed as the portable, waterproof Bluetooth speaker that combines 360° sound with 360° lightshow. It stated that it will take the user to a next level listening experience while bringing music to life with its glowing LED lights. The question is, is the JBL Pulse 3 worth its Php 11k price? Do the LED lights affect the sound’s quality? Find out more here.

Design

The JBL Pulse 3 comes in the colors Black and White. In this review, we’ll be using the white variant of the device. The speaker seems to be made of glass but in reality the JBL Pulse 3 is made of smooth plastic which covers the LED lights underneath. On the top and bottom are the bass radiators with no mesh. These radiators can be seen vibrating with the music which for me adds to the fun aspect of the device. The main unit measures 223mm x 92mm x 92mm and weighs 960g. The design itself looks simple yet modern. It really gives off the impression that it plays in 360 degrees. Personally, I think the speaker looks the best with its LED lights lit up.

The buttons are positioned at the back of the device along with the product’s name. The buttons consist of the power switch, Bluetooth pairing, volume control, play/pause button that also serves as the voice assistant button, JBL Connect+, and lights control button. If you would rather turn the lights off, all you have to do is press and hold the light button until it turns off.

Inside the box, the product also came with a Micro USB cable and a power adaptor.

Features

The JBL Pulse 3’s features includes Wireless Bluetooth Streaming, Voice Assistant Integration, and 12 hours of playtime. It can also produce a 360-degree sound along with the lights. Furthermore, the device is IPX7 Waterproof which means that the user won’t have to worry about bringing it with them in pools and getting it wet. The device can also be connected to up to a hundred JBL Connect+ enabled speakers via the JBL Connect+. The device also has a built-in microphone. If the user wishes to control the device’s LED lights, they may do so through the JBL Connect App.

Audio Performance

Despite its LED lights being one of its prime features, JBL still made sure that the Pulse 3 will produce a high quality sound. The product gives off a balanced sound with just the right bass. In addition, its 360-degree audio is perfect for outdoor events especially when its connected to other JBL Connect+ capable speakers. Unfortunately, this speaker is not compatible with older JBL Connect speakers.

The speaker has 12 hours of playing time which is comparably a lot lower than other speakers. If you want a longer playing time, you would have to make sure to bring the charger with you.

Verdict

Overall, the JBL Pulse 3 is a good deal for it does produce a well-balanced sound. Its also durable while being waterproof at the same time. The LED lights also moves in tune with the music.
