Under the hood, the OnePlus 6 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 whereas the P20 houses the Kirin 970 chipset. We weren’t able to fully figure out which of the two chipsets is better since both have their own areas where they excel in. The Snapdragon 845 performs better in terms of CPU and GPU. As for the Kirin 970, it does better in AI-related tasks because of its independent built-in NPU.
The two devices also differed in their storage variants. The OnePlus 6 offers a variant with 6/8GB of RAM as well as an internal storage of 256GB. Meanwhile, the Huawei P20 only has one variant, 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM.
In terms of their camera setup, both devices seem to have dual rear cameras. The OnePlus 6 comes with 20 MP + 16 MP rear camera with a 16MP selfie snapper. Meanwhile, the Huawei P20 has dual 12MP + 20MP rear cameras along with an 24MP front camera. Regarding their rear camera specs, the OnePlus 6 is higher but we would have to consider the P20’s Leica optics. On the other hand, the P20 wins in terms of their front camera. It was nice to know that unlike the OnePlus 6, the P20 allows the user to use the portrait mode even in selfies. We would have to do a camera comparison to truly know for sure which of the two has better camera capabilities.
For security, both have a fingerprint scanner and Face Unlock feature. The scanner is located at the rear part of the OnePlus 6 smartphone similar with the Huawei P20.
The OnePlus device is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery and supported by Fast battery charging (5V 4A 20W). The Huawei smartphone wins this round with a 3,400mAh battery.
