Xiaomi has confirmed that they will be holding an event on May 31 in Shenzhen, China. In lieu of this, the company has also announced that they will officially reveal the Xiaomi Mi 8 during the event.
This bit of news came from a Weibo post which included an image suggesting the launch of the Mi 8. With a week before the launch, it was reported that two variants of a Xiaomi device has been approved by the China Compulsory Certification (3C) authority in China and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. Rumors suggest that two variants are the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 8. The listing mentioned that the variants will support 5V/3A, 9V/A and 12V/1.5A charging.
Previous speculations have also suggested that the smartphone will sport a 6.01″ OLED notched display with 3D facial recognition. The device will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 and fueled by a 4,000mAh battery. In terms of security, it suggested that the Mi 8 might sport an under-display fingerprint scanner.
According to some reports, the Mi 8 will launch alongside the Mi 7 smartphone. On the other hand, others suggest that the Mi 8 is a substitute of the Mi 7. Xiaomi have yet to clear this information so we’ll have to wait until the event to be sure.
Earlier this week, Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, recently stated that they will be holding an event dated on May 31, 2018 although he didn’t specify which products will be launched. Rumors suggest that the company might also announce the following: Mi 7, Mi Band 3 Fitness Tracker, and Mi Max 3.
